Group encourages public to put a plan in place to avoid fire ant problems
Raleigh, N.C. – Members of the North Carolina Pest Management Association today reminded the public of the importance of preventing a fire ant infestation. The group gathered at Carter-Finley Stadium for its regular treatment of the parking lots in advance of Saturday’s football game and tailgating activities. The treatment was part of an ongoing annual preventative treatment program.
“Like other pest problems, fire ant infestations are preventable with the right treatment,” said Burns Blackwell of Terminix Company in Greensboro and a board member of the NCPMA. “Today’s treatment at Carter-Finley is part of an ongoing program designed to prevent any infestation of fire ants and a way for the North Carolina Pest Management Association to show the general public that putting a regular plan in place, like the Wolfpack Club has done here at Carter-Finley Stadium, can help avoid unwanted situations.”
Fire ants can build large mounds in soil and near structural foundations. In some instances, they can enter cracks in buildings. Fire ants can cause multiple, painful stings when their nests are disturbed or threatened.
“Fire ants are not something that the average person can properly treat and prevent on their own,” said Mitch Taylor, of Capital Pest Services, Inc. in Raleigh and NCPMA board member. “It is important to have a professional pest management company on hand to develop the proper treatment and prevention program. Our association’s members are well-trained and capable of helping address any fire ant problem.”
This is the third year of the annual fire ant prevention treatment program at Carter-Finley Stadium.
